Spider-Man 3: Second Video Game Trailer
April 19, 2007 | Leave a Comment
The Spider-Man games from Activision have consistently been outstanding. This is a surprise, considering most movie based games often turn out horrible, usually do to inflexible release schedules.
I find these games to be fun just to explore and swing around New York. In this new release, the city is bigger, deeper, and more detailed. Aa long as the Wii controls hold up, this is destined to be an amazing adventure game. This trailer has me salivating for this game even more than the first trailer.

Manhunt 2 for Wii Trailer
April 16, 2007 | Leave a Comment
I was never excited about the original Manhunt game from Rockstar, but it got a lot of play in my house. For months this was the game of choice at lunch everyday for my friends. It is likely this was the most played game on our XBox.
With this in mind, I am reluctantly watching Manhunt 2 emerge for Nintendo Wii. I am particularly interested in the fact that Rockstar was willing to publish with Nintendo. This should go a long way towards getting them adult gamer respect.

Super Paper Mario For Wii
April 8, 2007 | 1 Comment
I really liked Paper Mario on the GameCube, though I was never able to complete it do to time conflicts… With that in mind I have been casually watching news about this version. IGN describes Super Paper Mario for Nintendo Wii as a 2D platformer, 3D adventure, with RPG elements mixed in. With that in mind, I watched the review above. Now I’m hooked. I will own this game, soon.
(Side note, IGN has embed-able video now! Welcome to the Web 2.0 game IGN!)

Spider-Man 3: The Video Game Trailer
February 28, 2007 | 6 Comments
With both Spider-Man 2 and Ultimate Spider-Man video games, Activision put together possibly the greatest product tie-in video games. IGN gave these scores of 8.8 and 8.4 respectively, which says a lot (scores from GameCube versions).
The development team is claiming that they have improved on the previous games with a larger, more detailed map of Manhattan as well as the ability to go underground in the sewers and subway systems. In previous games, they left things wide open for you to swing and explore the city, taking on thugs and side missions as you so desired. In this game they have enhanced this piece immensely, causing alternate story lines to spawn based on your actions as well as setting up competing city gangs who need to be kept under control.
Of course all the villains from the movie will be included, we can expect Venom, Goblin, and Sandman. They also promise to bring in a few other Spider-Man bad guys who aren’t in the movie, just to keep things interesting.
The trailer above leaves me with very high hopes for this game. More than anything, I hope they can find a good way of harnessing the Nintendo Wii controller for even more engaging game play.
But, hey who am I kidding, let me swing around New York city as Spider-Man and there really doesn’t need to be much more of a point in the game than that…

Best Super Bowl XLI Ads
February 5, 2007 | 2 Comments
As always the Super Bowl ads are an equal draw for viewers. I’m torn because I truly love both the game and the ads, which makes a DVR a necessity for bathroom breaks…
Anyway, here are my favorite commercials from this year, basically these are my top five sponsors, multiple ads for each in some cases, followed by two ads that get special mention.
Bud Light - Rock/Paper/Scissors
Bud Light - Fist Bump
CareerBuilder - Jungle Office Warfare Series Unfortunately these are not embed-able. Damn CareerBuilder!
Darts & Jungle, Inc
Promotion Pit
Performance Evaluation
Siera Mist - Beard Combover
Doritos - Live the Flavor
Coke - Video Game (GTA)
Special Mention for Most Disturbing: Chevy HHR Car Wash 2007 Super Bowl Spot
Special Mention for Saddest: GM robot suicide dream

Create Your Mii!
November 28, 2006 | 18 Comments
Dee posted about this awesome flash based Mii creator that simulates the same functionality as the Mii creator on the new Nintendo Wii. Dee found this to create her own Mii after having enjoyed playing Wii Sports: Boxing at my house. Keep in mind Dee is one of the non-gamer types Nintendo is trying (and succeeding) to reach with this system.
I have to admit, I have spent an embarrassing amount of time playing with Mii characters. In fact, I have spent more time in there then I have on some of my games… With networked friends included, I now have 21 Mii on my system. I’m really hoping Nintendo and third party developers utilize this more frequently, like what is being done with Wii Sports. These simple caricatures add an additional level of fun and immersion that has been entirely unexpected to me.
On a sidenote… can we all agree that the plural of Wii or Mii is like the plural of deer? I think adding the ’s’ is cumbersome and dirty. I’m not the first one to make this observation (Sickr?), but I’d like to propagate it.

First Nintendo Wii Commercial
November 16, 2006 | 4 Comments
Nintendo is not allowing it to be embedded, but the advertisement is on YouTube. The basic premise is that two japanese men show up at a random person’s door and say “Wii wants to play”, they then come in and break out the fun. Apparently this is one of an initial set of four that will be released.
Update: Thanks to Justin for pointing this out, the official Wii site now has all four ads and the long version merging them into one.
