Strong Bad’s Cool Game For Attractive People

April 13, 2008 | Leave a Comment

I thought that the new Final Fantasy game was the reason to get excited about WiiWare, but I was horribly mistaken. The key game I am now looking eagerly forward to is Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People from Tell Tale Games!

Now an important safety announcement:

Wii Sports Boxing, Meet The Z Cam

February 28, 2008 | Leave a Comment

This IGN video is a good taste of what the ZCam from 3DV Systems is all about. However, the videos on their site show the broad conceptual usage of such a device. Basically, this camera has full 3D sensing capability at 60 fps. Additionally, it has depth cut off, so you can configure it to ignore things beyond a certain depth of field.

Some big player will buy this company and their technology. The only question is who? Microsoft? Sony? Nintendo? Sony already has the Eye Toy, but this steps the game up to another level. Nintendo is clearly interested in innovative control with everything they are pushing both with the Wii and the DS. However, I think Microsoft will jump on this. The XBox has not dipped into this market yet at all. Plus, the videos show tons of Windows Vista applications and PC integration. I think this is an almost inevitable acquisition.

PS3 Head Tracking - Without A Goofy Hat!

February 27, 2008 | 2 Comments

Johnny Lee shook my world with his proof of concept head tracking hack on the Nintendo Wii, but it looks as though Sony is going to be the company to run with his idea. Further simplifying the use, they use the Eye Toy accessory to do head tracking. From this, they show basically the exact same proof of concept demo Lee is now so famous for.

Though Boom Blox will have the honor of being the first to put this in a game! Sadly, the inclusion is merely an easter egg for this strange but intriguing Wii game…

Guitar Hero III - Wii Replacement Disks

January 17, 2008 | 1 Comment

As awesome as Guitar Hero 3 for the Wii is… they accidentally released the game with mono sound. Apparently this was due to some screw up when the game master was made. Whatever the cause, Activision has stepped up:

From the Activision recall site:

As you know, some consumers have not been able to enjoy the full audio output of Dolby Pro Logic II on the Wii version of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Activision is working with Nintendo to improve the audio experience and will be re-mastering the game. We will be offering Wii consumers who have Dolby capabilities free replacement discs in early 2008 once the discs become available. To pre-register for your free replacement disc, please fill out the following information. We will email you once the free replacement discs are available.

So if you have Guitar Hero III for Wii, I highly recommend getting your recall disk exchange.

Wii Remote Jackets

In response to continued complaints about idiotic damage resulting from misusing your wii-motes… Nintendo is now packaging a jacket with all new purchases. For anyone who purchased prior to this inclusion, Nintendo is offering to send jackets out similar to the strap replacement they did months ago.

From Nintendo:

Nintendo is now including the Wii Remote Jacket for the Wii Remotes in all new hardware being shipped. For Wii owners who purchased their systems prior to this addition, we are offering to send free Wii Remote Jackets for their existing Wii Remotes. If you would like to request a Wii Remote Jacket, please start by completing the information form below.

They look a bit fugly, but I just ordered mine…

Ninjabread Man on Wii

September 7, 2007 | 1 Comment

Ninjabread ManEmmons sent along a link to this upcoming game from Conspiracy Entertainment: Ninjabread Man.

From the video, the graphics look terrible, the worlds empty, and the game play basic. However, the premise is so maddeningly entertaining that it needed to be pointed out regardless of quality.

Conspiracy Entertainment is attempting to put out nine games for Wii in 2007 including: Offroad Extreme, Mini Desktop Racing, Action GirlzRacing, Rock ‘N’ Roll Adventures: Elviz, Monster Trux Extreme, Myth Makers Super Kart GP, Billy the Wizard, and Anubis II (there was an Anubis 1?!?). I weep for game industry reviewers who will be tortured through these games. Not a one of them looks useful enough to be in a pack of mini games… An IGN commenter couldn’t have said it better - “Oh for the love of god burn them all!”

Sadly the box art and the following description are probably the best Ninjabread Man will ever deliver…

Hordes of snapping Cup Cakes, angry Bees and Jelly Monsters have taken over this once sweet and tasty land. Only one man can stop this evil army of monster cakes. He’s one tough cookie, a guy that won’t crumble under the pressure……’Ninjabread Man’ is here!

Throw Ninja stars to stun enemies and then follow up with Ninjabread Man’s mighty samurai sword, reducing enemies into a quivering pool of Raspberry Jam.

Collect power ups to increase the power and range of Ninjabread Man’s weapons and use Ninja skills to jump onto high ledges, dash past enemies and find the Magic Candies! Can the Ninjabread Man save the day? Candy Land’s future depends on you!
