X-Men Origins: Wolverine Footage Debuts
July 24, 2008 | 1 Comment

At San Diego Comic Con today a brief trailer-like set of clips from the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie debuted. The movie will premier in theaters May 1, 2009.
Sadly, I’m not at Comic Con, and as of now there is no linked cell phone footage. The best I can do is share some of the characters and castings that have been confirmed and/or shown:
- Hugh Jackman is of course reprising his role as Logan/Wolverine.
- Liev Schreiber as Victor Creed/Sabretooth (replacing Tyler Mane)
- A younger Major William Stryker will be played by Danny Huston.
- Taylor Kitsch as Remy LeBeau/Gambit
- Lynn Collins as Kayla Silverfox
- Kevin Durand as Frederick J. Dukes/The Blob
- Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool
- Daniel Henney as David North/Agent Zero
- Dominic Monaghan as Barnell Bohusk/Blackwing/Beak
- IESB is claiming they saw Emma Frost in the footage too
Other than all these characters making brief appearances in the film, not much is known yet. Hopefully a general public trailer will be revealed in the next couple months. Filming has completed.

Next Avengers Debut Trailer
May 22, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Marvel’s animated branch of direct to DVD movies will bring Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow in August of 2008. So far I’ve loved the stuff they have been doing, although this one seems a bit stranger to me.
The premise is that Ultron has returned years after the classic Avengers have long since moved on. The kids step up and have to save the world. I wondered about how good this would be for comics fans, considering these characters are all new, here is what the Marvel.com interview with creator Chris Yost had to say:
“But!” he continues, “If you do know the classic characters, and do know the history, then there is a TON of stuff packed into the movie. Nothing distracting, nothing that will take people out of the moment, but there’s going to be plenty of goodness for hardcore Avengers fans.”

Summer 2008 Movies
March 15, 2008 | 2 Comments
There is no doubt I am going to spend way too much money this summer if I see half the movies I’m excited about.
Here’s a chronological list of the goodness I’m paying attention to, it’s nearly every week:
Leatherheads - April 4th - So April isn’t summer… but the trio of Clooney, Krasinski and Zellweger looks spectacularly funny.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall - April 18th - One name, Kristen Bell. If you still have doubts, check the trailer.
Iron Man - May 2nd - Can’t miss this.
Speed Racer - May 9th - Visually exciting, mixed opinions on the Wachowski brothers after two crappy Matrix sequels…
Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - May 16th - I didn’t love the first, but this looks a bit darker and more interesting to me.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - May 22nd - Another can’t miss. I hope this hold up to the originals.
Sex in the City - May 30th - I don’t care, but my wife could make this unavoidable…
You Don’t Mess With The Zohan - June 6th - Probably wait until this hits DVD, but I generally enjoy Adam Sandler. He hasn’t had a big hit lately, he’s do.
Kung Fu Panda - June 6th - Jack Black as a Dreamworks digitally animated panda? W00t.
The Incredible Hulk - June 13th - The first Hulk movie looked good, but lacked substance. Can Ed Norton put this franchise back on track? Loved the trailer, I’ll be there for this in the theater.
The Happening - June 13th - M. Night Shyamalan had 2 great movies, followed by three increasingly forgettable ones. Zooey Deschanel always intrigues me, but this will get a pass until it hits DVD.
Get Smart - June 20th - The classic TV series was great fun. Steve Carell is perfect for the part, let’s hope he does better with this than Will Farrell did with Bewitched…
Wanted - June 27th - Holy crap. I can’t begin to explain my excitement about Mark Millar’s creator owned book being made into an adrenaline pumping, full blown, summer popcorn flick. (plus Angelina Jolie) This year’s V for Vendetta or 300.
Wall-E - June 27th - If you want more family fare this weekend, Pixar rarely disappoints. (yeah… I hate Cars)
Hancock - July 2nd - Will Smith plays a not-so-super hero. Trailer was enough to get me excited.
Hell Boy II: The Golden Army - July 11th - I’ve been patiently waiting for this since credits rolled on the first film. Must see.
The Dark Knight - July 18th - If you have a pulse, you’ll be in line for this.
The X-Files 2 - July 25th - I’m happily shocked that this movie exists. I miss the X-Files so much…
Star Wars: Clone Wars - August 15th - This new animated adventure existing between Episodes 2 and 3 is flying shockingly far below the radar. I have a feeling this will be the greatest Star Wars movie since Return of the Jedi, but no one seems to be talking much about it…
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - November 21st - Not summer, but another blockbuster to look forward to in 2008.
If 1/3 of these are good, this could be a movie summer to remember. See you at the movies!

“X-Men Origins: Wolverine” Movie
October 20, 2007 | 4 Comments
Marvel announced the title and release date of their upcoming X-Men movie trilogy spin-off. The official title will be X-Men Origins: Wolverine and will be released on May 1, 2009.
I like how they are including “X-Men” in the title. This helps to link it to the other three movies and in turn will hopefully gain it more recognition and success. It also sets up the proposed Magneto movie to have a similar title like “X-Men Origins: Magneto”. I’d love a whole series of these single character focused X-Men movies, the possibilities are extensive: Professor Xavier, Emma Frost, Beast, maybe even Gambit? The May release is also significant as this solidifies May as Marvel’s movie month, I could get used to that.
Of course Hugh Jackman will be reprising his role as Wolverine. According to Marvel.com, there is also the possibility of “a young William Stryker, Sabretooth, Weapon X and a bevy of other mutants—both returning and new characters.”

A New Captain America
October 12, 2007 | 2 Comments
Captain America may have been gunned down at the end of Marvel’s Civil War killing Steve Rogers, but the ideal that Cap stood for carries on. With this in mind someone new dons the costume and persona of Captain America starting in January. With a new Cap’ comes a new costume designed by near legendary comic artist Alex Ross. There is a great deal of speculation about who may be taking on the mantle, I’m certainly curious read Ed Brubaker’s upcoming storyline.
If you want more detail on the hows and whys, the Marvel article on this is fantastic.
