Random Used Comics, Coming and Going
// February 20th, 2006 // My Stuff
Sara and I drove up to Haverhill, NH Saturday to pick up a box approximately 50 comics someone was giving away. Jenny tipped us off about this. Clearly we had no idea what to expect, but overall I was quite happy.
There were 20 or so sports comics which I didn’t even know existed. There were a pile of early 90’s Image Comics, some mid-80’s Marvel, some beat-up 60’s-80’s DC stuff, and some other random whatnot. The only thing I wanted for myself was a pair of Spectacular Spider-Man books. As far as I’m concerned those alone were worth the trip.
At this point I decided to look at what I could do to unload the ones I didn’t want. Ebay seems to have so many people dealing comics that they are hugely undervalued, especially for anything post-1980. (Of course this led me to spending way too much buying up some Spider-Man back issues, but that’s another post for another day.)
Then I found the “We Buy and Trade” section of myComicShop.com. These guys make it easy to lookup the stuff you have against a list of comics they are interested in buying. I found some surprising prices on some beat-up back issues. In short, after pulling out some stuff of my own I’ve been looking to move for years, I sent them out 30 or so comics for a pretty substantial store credit.
They didn’t want everything I had, but it was still a great experience, highly recommended. Certainly look into this if you have a lot of stuff that you have little to no personal attachment to, or that you have no preconceived notion of value.
