Monty Python: SPAMalot

Monty Python's SPAMalotWhile in Las Vegas this spring we had the opportunity to go and see Monty Python’s SPAMalot at the Wynn. This musical is accurately billed as “A new musical lovingly ripped off from the motion picture Monty Python and the Holy Grail”. In my opinion it’s an improvement over the film, and that is really saying something!

I laughed throughout while drinking multiple Holy Grail Ales. The jokes which I feared would sound like bad impersonations of the originals, instead felt fresh and possibly even more funny. On this topic, they didn’t stick only to the Holy Grail material but added new and rolled in some classic stuff from other Python films, including the “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” song from Life of Brian.

I love how live theater when performed by a great cast has a way of transporting you into a world more effectively than a film can. John O’Hurley from Seinfeld fame was a shockingly good choice to play Arthur and my happiness with the cast extended throughout.

If you ever get the opportunity, definitely catch this show. Eric Idle is possible one of the funniest people who walks this earth. I am having a hard time resisting the urge to spend far too much of my hard earned cash at the SPAMalot Shop
