How Far We’ve Come – Matchbox Twenty

When Matchbox Twenty released Yourself or Someone Like You, I promptly fell in love with them and played that CD possibly more than any other, ever. Somehow I slowly stopped paying attention to them. Until now.

Their new song, “How Far We’ve Come”, is awesome, so is the video. Fully embracing You Tube, the band has released most of their videos there for your viewing pleasure.

This new video shows the band playing in front of classic video footage of modern history. The footage progresses through: JFK, the moon walk, Muhammad Ali, peace movement, women’s rights movement, Pele, fall of the Berlin Wall, Tiananmen Square protests, the personal computer, Live Aid, Princess Di, new millennium, Oslo Accords with Bill Clinton and Yassar Arafat, Live Earth with Al Gore, Campaign 2008 featuring Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

I agree, it is awesome. But I if mankind keeps treating earth this way, it will die and so will everyone else. And if we mankind gets lucky, we might be able to still be here in the 21th century. RECYCLE,REUSE,AND REDUCE!!!! SAVE EARTH AND MANKIND!!!

I think it is saying that our leaders are making horrible decisions and that the world it crashing down and it’s to late to do anything about it at this point. I really don’t think it’s talking about saving the pandas and rain forest though.

I read it more as saying that we really haven’t progressed at all. We think of ourselves as having learned from our mistakes and being so advanced…but really we are clinging to the very things that are destroying us as a civilization, ie the fact that the abortion/birth-control provider PP has direct ties to the eugenics movement in Nazi Germany… We just keep making the same mistakes and we cannot escape them.
