Great Color Picker
// June 6th, 2006 // Technology Bits
When doing web development it is often helpful to use a color wheel or some sort of color picker when coming up with color schemes. In general I’m satisfied with the desktop application Pixie in my normal web development toolkit. However, that tool does not present a color wheel or allow you to pick multiple colors from out of nowhere.
Enter 4096 Color Wheel. As far as I can tell, this is the ultimate web based application for playing with colors. It gives you colors in hex, like you’d want, but also presents “web safe” and “web smart” alternatives for any color you may pick.

New guy ’round these parts…found your blog searching for reviews of Spider-Man: New Avengers a few days ago.
Good stuff…I do enough web design for my school webpage that the 4096 will come in handy…thanks…
That reminds me, you should check out Web Developer’s Handbook. It’s like a table of contents sent from heaven.
It’s probably important to note that what is typically called the “web safe” palette actually isn’t. (http://webmonkey.wired.com/webmonkey/00/37/index2a.html)
The palette that is actually web safe consists of just these colors.
So few people have less than 24 bit color displays these days that there’s a lot of other things that development time can be better spent on.
Lonnie: Any discussion in my comic related posts would be greatly appreciated. I’m always looking for people to talk comics with. In general discussion in those areas has been a bit flat…
Mike: Great site, there is so much there!
Tom: I agree completely. In general I don’t worry about that at all. What I do find uber useful is being able to click colors on the wheel and have them saved on the left. Very handy when building palettes.
HOW THE FUCK CAN I GET NAME SPOOFER! JESUS CHRIST!
