Galactus IS a Cloud
June 16, 2007
I’m sorry if that was a spoiler for some, but honestly, I think it’s better knowing that going in than expecting the moment us geeks long for. The moment when the big purple dude appears in his massive glory to take down a planet. He is in fact portrayed in Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer as a great big cosmic cloud. I wish he looked like the other image I’ve included here from Marvel Ultimate Alliance. There he looked cool, modern, and fantastic. Here he sucks. I am saddened.
However… This movie otherwise stands up and delivers the fun. We can never expect a comic book movie to match 100% with the comic lore we know and love, this is no exception. There are a number of things fans can take issue with, but in the end, this is a very good Fantastic Four movie.
This movie is better than the first, though I will admit I hesitantly enjoyed the first film. The effects all look good and the Silver Surfer kicks serious ass. I’m hoping he can get a spin-off. This is particularly significant since I don’t really care this character in the books all that much.
After seeing Johnny rip out with all the Four’s powers combined in the end, I’m dying for Fantastic Four 3 to be about the Super Skrull. Maybe following the Kree/Skrull War?
Anyway, if you can get over the Galactus issue, and you go into this movie expecting fun and action, you’ll come away pleasantly surprised. Comparing this to Marvel’s other two films so far this year, it decimated Ghost Rider and is far better than Spider-Man 3.

Got something to say?

I was pretty disappointed with the fact that the big G didn’t make an appearance the way we were all hoping he would. Otherwise I enjoyed the movie but at least for me it kept the movie from being great.
I haven’t seen the movie yet. I am not a big Marvel fan. Could it be that Galactus uses the cloud for transportation? I saw the Ultimate Alliance picture and thought that was pretty cool.
And now that the Marvel people have had their Spiderman and F4 summer, it is time to move over for Transformers.
Transformers has more potential than either summer Marvel film… I hope it doesn’t disappoint.
From what previous reports have stated the Transformers movie is incredibly entertaining. What it might lack in story it makes up for in sheer awe.
Then we make room for next summer when the Dark Knight Returns and thus allows for DC to step to the fore front. Still waiting on that Aquaman movie though.
I must say, I really enjoyed the F4 movie. I hated the first one and went because Keith backed out of a child’s birthday party. But he missed out because I really liked it. Sure, I didn’t get to see Galactus but I was never crazy about the giant robot anyway.
Hmm, wonder if I should add this back into my “to see” queue? I didn’t like the first one either so it kept getting preempted by other movies.
I have really high hopes for Transformers!
[...] far, I was most excited for Spider-Man 3, but was generally let down. Fantastic Four delivered more than expected, but was not outstanding. Hot Fuzz was funny beyond words, but I have [...]
