From the mind of Ricky Gervais and drawn exquisitely by Rob Steen, Flanimals are about the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. Each of these tragic creatures is explained in great detail in the “children’s books” Flanimals and More Flanimals. Soon we will look into the sea with Flanimals of the Deep.
But more significantly, a full blown, prime time, animated series is now in the works! The show is expected to hit ITV in 2007 or 2008. Gervais hot off his successes with The Office, Extras, and podcasting is creating six 30-minute episodes which will run on Sunday evenings, targeted at youth and adults. Even better? He’s signed former animators from Aardman to bring the likes of Puddloflaj, Munge Fuddler, Glonk, Munty Flumple, Clunge Ambler, Grundit, Mernimbler, and more to life in claymation.

Ricky Gervais is very talented and very funny however, he is also a very anti-Judeo-Christian atheist.
His Flanimals book is actually an anti-Judeo-Christian polemic in the guise of a children’s book.
For example, it includes a mock rendering of Michelangelo’s “The Creation of Adam” along with text that sings the praises of mutation/evolution and besmirched as “Mental!” the view that all of the Flanimals were created by a sky being known as “Grob.”

Why is it that a book that includes concepts tangentially related to atheism is a bad thing for children, but if someone gives my child a bible that is totally OK?
Also, it is unfair to call Gervais “anti-Judeo-Christian” just because he has different beliefs. Does that automatically make you anti-Muslim? anti-Jewish? anti-Hindu? or even anti-atheist? He has a right to believe whatever he likes as long as it is not impinging on your freedoms.
