DotA 6.44(b) Brings 6 New Heroes!
June 7, 2007
With the release of DotA 6.44 and the near immediate 6.44b bug release, comes six new heroes; three for Sentinel, three for Scourge. My personal favorite’s are Storm Spirit and Templar Assassin. My least favorite is Dark Seer, in fact, if anyone can explain a strategy for that character to become useful, I would love to hear it…
Here’s a quick overview of the new heroes and their spells:
Raijin Thunderkeg - Storm Spirit
- Electric Rave: Transfers mana into pure electric current at a rapid rate, increasing the Storm Spirit’s attack speed by 20% for 6 mana per second.
- Barrier: Shields a target with Raijin’s discharged mana, resisting spell damage while under the effect. Lasts 20 seconds.
- Overload: Each successful attack builds up a static charge, eventually releasing in the form for an electrical burst. The burst deals damage and does a minor Purge-like effect to the attacked foe and nearby area.
- Lightning Grapple: Creates an electrical attraction between the Storm Spirit and a target area, pulling him and all nearby units to that point.
Huskar - Sacred Warrior
- Inner Vitality: Magically unlocks the potential regenerative power within a target unit, healing its life force based upon its primary attribute. If the target is below 40% health, it will regenerate faster. Heals 10(30)% of main attrib + 4hp regen per sec. Lasts 16 seconds.
- Burning Spear: Using his own life force to set them aflame, the Sacred Warrior can cause his spears to deal stackable damage over time as they impact the foe. Cannot cast if Huskar’s HP is lower than 100. Stacks up to 5 times. Lasts 6 seconds.
- Berserker`s Blood: Huskar feels each of his wounds and channels the pain, increasing attack speed and damage for each 7% missing health. 7 max bonuses. First bonus starts at full health.
- Life Break: Huskar reaches into the well of his own life force to potentially destroy an enemy. Huskar’s target takes damage equal to 40% of his HP. Slows target by 50% for 5 seconds. Huskar pays a certain percentage of his HP to cast this.
Lanaya - Templar Assassin
- Refraction: Manipulating psionic energy around herself granting a mystical refraction of light that protects her from external harm and giving her bonus damage for a limited number of instances. Lasts 20 seconds.
- Meld: The art of Shakuras allows Lanaya to conceal herself at any time of the day and strike from the shadows with her armor-shredding blades. Deals bonus damage and reduces enemy armor for 10 seconds.
- Psi Blades: Using her psionic powers, the Templar causes enemy units behind her target to feel the same pain as the target itself. This psionic power extends her attack range.
- Psionic Trap: Creates psionic traps on ground. When triggered, it will slow units within 400 range by 50% for 5 seconds.
Azgalor - Pit Lord
- Firestorm: Calls down 6 waves of fire that damage enemy units in an area. Each wave deals initial damage and then burns enemies for 2 seconds.
- Pit of Malice: A deadly pit is conjured at target location. Any unit that enters it becomes corrupted with malicious forces and are unable to move for some time.
- Expulsion: Ignites the rotten gases of corpses, detonating them to cause damage to any enemy within the explosion radius. Each explosion fuels another until there are no more corpses in the area. Does a ministun on damaged units.
- Dark Portal: Opens rifts that pass through the netherworld at his present position and a target position simultaneously. Heroes can walk back and forth through the gates to cross the distance between them in an instant by clicking on the center of it.
Dirge - Undying
- Raise Dead: Calls the Undying’s fellow zombies out of the earth to fight. Once a zombie attacks six times, another one will rise alongside it. When a zombie dies, its reanimating life force returns to Dirge, healing him by 50 hp. Lasts 30 seconds.
- Soul Rip: Redirects the flow of living energy through a target friend or foe, damaging them or healing them depending on how many unites are near it.
- Heartstopper Aura: The Dirge’s deathly air stills the hearts of his opponents, causing them to lose 1% of their max health over time.
- Plague: Infects the target with a plague. Reduces movement speed by 30% and amplifies incoming damage. Infects other units that come within range of a plagued unit.
Ish~kafel - Dark Seer
- Vacuum: Creates an abyss upon a chosen parameter, pulling in and damaging foes in the area.
- Ion Shell: Surrounds a target with energized spellwork, creating a shield that causes damage per second to enemy units who come in contact with it. Lasts 15 seconds
- Surge: Floods a target with excess power, removing most negative buffs from it and giving it maximum speed for brief period of time.
- Wall of Replica: Raises a wall out of pure mana across the landscape. Heroes who attempt to pass through it will have images of themselves emerge from the wall to serve under the Dark Seer until the wall’s duration is up. Images take 250% damage and deal 35%.
With these new editions, everything suddenly feels fresh and new in DotA land. New combinations and strategies emerge, reminding me why this is both the greatest Warcraft III mod and the most fun online game I have ever played.

Got something to say?

The undying is just godlike man. Sacred warrior is pretty strong too. But templar assasin and storm breaker need a bit more spark in terms of abilities. The pit lord has a huge area stun good for team battles and his ulti is prolly the most useful skill in the game.
Dark seer is probably the most gay hero todate.
There is a reason why this intelligent hero is melee.
Just build skill 1 and 2 first, max it out or add in one skill 3.
Strategy : shield urself, then cast 1st spell, cast 3rd spell on urself and keep whacking another hero.
GG.
Use the shield for godlike farming. Get a radiance, gg.
Dark Seer is a support hero. He’s very useful in pushing. Just get refresher and you’ll get so many illusions from the wall of replica. Your enemy wouldn’t know which one is real, besides illusions make 30% of your damage.
Also the wall of replica is a good way to waste your enemies level 6 skills. Cast the wall of replica, and make the illusions seem to push. Let the enemies cast chrono, chain frost.. whatever. Voila.. no more ulti for them. Then you make your move.
TA to me is god especially with ter first move but to be able to become hard in the late game u need a very good start an u need to know how to use her third move very quickly and to use her crit + her third move for serious farming.
Why would anyone say that Dark Seer is useless? he has the ability to give anyone on his team an instant haste rune effect for 60 or so mana. He’s friggin amazing just for that.
But yeah, he’s pretty much one of the best support heros in the game plus, much like Shadow Priest, he’s not just stuck being support like say, an omniknight usually is. Like how Shadow Priest can be a great sniper if he builds for it, Dark Seer can be a great melee chaser. He can even farm well too.
All the new heros are cool and none of them are really that imbalanced although Dirge can be rough if you don’t have right heros to fight him (good disablers, snipers or Raigor who can destroy him utterly).
Right now the only problem in the game is the Goblin Alchemist who needs to be buffed. He needs either more base armour or more base strength and his ult needs to be more powerful by perhaps having it give him bonus damage or making the attack speed increase higher or maybe even just giving him increased armour in addition to the regen increase to make it mean more in a fight. Or hell, make it give him a radience-like aura, just something.
All it does now is give him huge regen and fast but not super fast attack speed. Super high regen is cool, but it doesn’t help you in any sort of sustained fight, it’s only good for keeping your health up through harrassment and farming. The cooldown on it is really short, and that’s cool, but it costs mana to cast and all it does is increase attack speed to a static rate and increase your regen. Brood Mother and Ursa both have equal or arguably better low cooldown ults and neither costs any mana.
He desperately needs a buff, probably to his ult, and then he’ll be fine but right now he’s almost worse than prebuff Rigwarl was. I was really happy when they fixed him, now the Bristleback is one of the better tanks in the game like he should be, now they just need to fix the alchemist and make him into an ultrafarmer rather than just the above average farmer who can’t defend himself against heros that he is now.
