Mel Brooks’ Spaceballs: The Animated Series
September 21, 2007 | Leave a Comment
G4 is apparently signed on to do an animated series spin off of the classic movie Spaceballs, titled Mel Brooks’ Spaceballs: The Animated Series.
There is little to no information on the web about this show. It is supposedly debuting this fall. Mel Brooks’ will be doing the voices of both Yogurt and President Skroob. No word on Rick Moranis or Bill Pullman. Certainly they’ll need a John Candy replacement to voice Barf…
Both IMDB and Wikipedia have shockingly sparse information about this, especially considering everything implies a debut this fall…

Common Craft - Modern Tech Topics in Plain English
September 19, 2007 | 3 Comments
Common Craft has built a series of presentations explaining modern tech topics in “Plain English”. What’s most interesting about their presentations is that they use a classic method of stop motion animation to explain these things. This counterintuitive approach is done entertainingly with paper cut-outs.
I think the Google Docs video I included above is their best, but if you were entertained by that, check out the older ones:

Zimbra Acquired By Yahoo!
September 18, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Yesterday it was announced that Zimbra was acquired by Yahoo!. The initial shock of this for me is related to the fact that Plymouth State University just recently released Zimbra to our campus constituents. This changes this tool from a diamond in the rough that we recognized to something clearly recognized by a big player in the industry as a quality tool.
My only fear would be the direction the platform goes in. Many were unhappy about the Yahoo purchase of Flickr. Also, companies’ innovation can sometimes get slowed up while they are merging with a bigger organization. Regardless of those concerns, I’m excited about this change and look for good things to come from this partnership.
This excitement seems to be shared by our sales representative who sent us this:
We’re really excited because of the resources and commitment Yahoo brings to help Zimbra continue focusing on our key markets, including the Education sector. One of Yahoo’s key objectives in acquiring Zimbra is supporting and growing our presence in EDU, including on-premises deployments at colleges. Yahoo is a major proponent of open technologies and this will allow us to further grow the integration options and features of Zimbra, along with our partners in the EDU sector.

M3 DS Simply for Nintendo DS
September 13, 2007 | 4 Comments
A while ago I stumbled upon this site which eventually lead me to check out the M3 DS Simply for Nintendo DS.
This device is marketed with the following features:
~ The same size as an original DS cart
~ Built in PassMe (No need for boot card or anything else to boot )
~ Using Micro SD card (Trans Flash) as external storage. Cheap & variety usage
~ Boot clean dump images
~ Super simple to use , drag and files over to the micro SD card (No drivers required)
~ Standard FAT system support
~ Support different speed of micro SD card even the low speed SD card .Run games without any lag or slow down
~ upgradeable Firmware ( OS / Bios / Kernel )
~ Touch screen control & robust skinning support
~ No need battery , back up the save file into the micro SD card directly .Never lose your save
~ Auto detect the save type & automatic generate saver file
~ Homebrew support , IO lib will release on launch
~ Direct watch movie , listen MP3 & read TXT on the DS via the use of Moonshell
~ Support WiFi, DS rumble pack & DS browser
This was enough to intrigue me, so I picked up the M3 DS Simply w/ 1GB Micro SD Card for $79.95 plush $6.99 shipping. In retrospect, I’d have been better of getting the M3 DS Simply without the microSD card ($59.95) and buying that part from Amazon, where the 2GB microSD card is only $22.99.
I have to say, after playing with this thing a bit, it is freaking amazing. Anything you could reasonably desire it to accomplish, it gets done easily. This thing is crazy amounts of fun, highly recommended.

Superheroes Tonight on Robot Chicken
September 12, 2007 | 1 Comment
Above is the entirety of the episode: “Tapping a Hero” from Season 3 of Robot Chicken. The specific segment I’m hugely entertained by occurs at 7:35. Stan Lee and Pamela Anderson dish on many of the superheroes in “Superheroes Tonight”. Best of all is the section beginning: “After a long career as the Justice League’s most impotent failure, Aquaman finally has a new career…”
OK, if you hang around past the credits, you may find Stan’s explanation of the Watcher, the Punisher and the Shocker even better…
(and yes, Stan Lee did truly voice this himself)

Iron Man Movie Trailer
September 11, 2007 | 4 Comments
The Iron Man trailer is out. You need to check it out! Below are my takeaways and highlights from the trailer. May 2nd, 2008 can’t come quick enough!

Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr) in Afghanistan, before he is captured

The first Iron Man suit breaking out of prison

Obadiah Stane (played by Jeff Bridges) with his Iron Monger suiit

Iron Monger - the main villain

Jim Rhodes (played by Terrence Howard), best friend to Tony Stark. In conventional Iron Man history, Rhodes eventually dons the Iron Man costume and persona for a time. Later Stark goes back to being Iron Man and Rhodes becomes War Machine.

Virginia “Pepper” Potts (played by Gwyneth Paltrow) is the prime love interest of Tony Stark. Much like Money Penny to James Bond, Potts is Stark’s executive secretary. In comic mythology, she eventually marries Stark’s close friend Happy Hogan.

Tony Stark clearly displaying the device embedded in his chest. They must be using some of the Ultimate story line with this device being something to keep him alive…

Finally, Iron Man in the modern suit in flight
Visually I think they have nailed this. Additionally, Downey Jr seems to be spot on with his Stark portrayal. This is very exciting.
