The Dark Knight: Joker Image

The Joker

I’m not 100% sold on Heath Ledger as Joker, but this image rules. This is from the upcoming sequel to Batman Begins, The Dark Knight. In related news, check out WhySoSerious.com for some viral Joker marketing.

DC and Warner Brothers’ marketing teams didn’t stop there with the marketing though. Check out IBelieveInHarveyDent.com for the political campaign site for Harvey Dent (aka Two Face) played by Aaron Eckhart. Or… the related (fan created?) IBelieveInHarveyDentToo.com, which initially looks empty but if you click and drag to highlight is extremely creepy.

(As usual, thanks to Keith for the heads up on these)

    Jason Brightman Design

    King-Mag

One of the more interesting/exciting things I was exposed to while at WordCamp 2007 was the design work of Jason Brightman. His designs are bending what would be expected out of WordPress for look and feel. Frankly they look more professional.

As I think about my next theme (I know I’m overdue), I hope to take some lessons from this.

    Arrival at WordCamp 2007

    July 21, 2007 | Leave a Comment

I'm going to WordCampCasey, Matt, and I are all at WordCamp 2007 this weekend in San Francisco, CA.

For the moment I’m most excited about hearing John C. Dvorak speak in person. I’ve been paying attention to what he says about tech since 1997 on ZDTV when I was first getting interested in technology. Now I tune in weekly to hear him on TWiT.

This is also my first time in San Francisco, so I’m hoping to get a chance to check out a bunch of the city too.

    Video Game Console Sales Charts

    Video Game Chartz

As an avid fan of video games, I’m always curious about who is “winning” the console wars as far as sales go. The best I’ve seen is Video Game Chartz. You can quickly and easily see information like I have snapshotted above for overall console sales. You can also get specifics on game popularity and sales for all the major consoles.

At the moment we can see that Nintendo’s Wii is poised to cross Microsoft’s XBox 360 in sales very soon. Sony’s PS3 is certainly screwed though…

    Spider-Man In X-Men Blooper

Very funny moment where someone dressed as Spider-Man jumps into a scene during filming of X-Men 2. This definitely had to break some tension on the set.

      Luminis Consulting

      July 15, 2007 | 1 Comment

I’ve been serving as the portal administrator at Plymouth State University since 2003. I headed their conversion from Campus Pipeline to Luminis III.2 in 2004. On May 28th we were (most likely) the first institution to deploy Luminis IV in production.

During this time, one of the most satisfying aspects of my job has been talking with other schools. It has often been my pleasure to talk with schools as they first start working with Luminis, or are doing an upgrade, or are just struggling with something new they would like to do with the platform.

Out of one of these conversations I was fortunate enough to establish a more in depth relationship with the University of San Diego. This eventually turned into a consulting engagement which I enjoyed immensely. I was able to help them get their newly hired portal administrator up to speed as well as assist in a number of small modifications and customizations. It also gave me the chance to visit their beautiful campus.

SunGardHE offers a number of options for consulting engagements, but they are very busy. It can often be difficult to get someone, especially for small things, and more challenging if you want them quickly. This is where I can offer my services as a Luminis Consultant.

To highlight my qualifications a bit more, I have presented on Luminis a number of times: LDI Implementation Case Study at PSU at Summit 2005, Implement and Deploy Banner Channels (top five Summit 2006 presentation), LDI Implementation Tips and Tricks, Alumni are Coming and Drag and Drop Channels/Statistics Gathering (Developers Lounge) at Summit 2006, Implement and Deploy Banner Channels and Extending SSO with CAS at Summit 2007, and more!

As always, I’m happy to talk with any school about any Luminis related topic, if however, you are looking for more than a couple conversations, I am available for consulting.

      MrSat.com - A Review

      July 13, 2007 | 5 Comments

The following is a paid review

MrSat.com is terrible. While the information provided appears to be somewhat useful to someone looking for information on satellite dishes, yet I’m convinced you could find better information on Wikipedia. The site is visually painful. Seriously, it uses the blink tag for a blinking quote that slaps you in the face from the top center of the page. The lack of knowledge about technology does not end there, it also prompts for a needed Quicktime plugin, but I both have Quicktime and can’t see how this site could possibly use it…

Then, there is the poor organization of the information all over the rest of the page, leading to information overload. This poor organization makes it very difficult to find the answer to any specific question without reading through the entire site.

While most of the information may be useful for a specific audience, there is quite a bit on the front page that isn’t necessary, for example, “Common Misspellings of the word satellite.” It’s not really clear why this is necessary at all, but it definitely isn’t front page worthy. This sort of thoughtlessness as relates to information organization extends throughout the site.

The tagline for the site is “Mr. Sat, that’s my name. That name again is Mr. Sat.” It appears to be a play on the radio gimmick of repeating a name in an attempt to get consumers to remember it. Since we’re reading the name not listening on the radio, it just feels like Mr. Sat is being condescending, not funny.

The colors don’t match, and the banner at the bottom of the page requires you to scroll for no particular reason. With an entire redesign and better organization, this site might become useful, but until then, it’s just painful.

I do not recommend this site to anyone, ever.
