DotA Music Video by Basshunter

// June 29th, 2007 // 2 Comments » // Fun Whatnot

I’m not sure what’s more shocking about this video to me. Is it the idea that in Sweden a techno song about could be written about DotA? That the song could go to number 6 on the Swedish music charts? Or that after a night of DotA one would go out clubbing with a large group of super-model hot women all over them? Madness.

Check out some of these lyrics:

We’re sitting here in Ventrilo
playing some DotA.

We push on and we’re owning,
with the opposition we’re toying.

Running around creeping
the opponents we’re sleeping.

This Basshunter guy kinda scares me.

Transformers Burger King Ad

Optimus Prime shows up at the Burger King drive through, argues to be allowed to order, transforms as a loophole, and is still denied for having no driver! Awesome. Is this the first time we’ve seen him speak?

Galactus IS a Cloud

// June 16th, 2007 // 12 Comments » // Fun Whatnot

FF2 Movie: GalactusI’m sorry if that was a spoiler for some, but honestly, I think it’s better knowing that going in than expecting the moment us geeks long for. The moment when the big purple dude appears in his massive glory to take down a planet. He is in fact portrayed in Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer as a great big cosmic cloud. I wish he looked like the other image I’ve included here from Marvel Ultimate Alliance. There he looked cool, modern, and fantastic. Here he sucks. I am saddened.

However… This movie otherwise stands up and delivers the fun. We can never expect a comic book movie to match 100% with the comic lore we know and love, this is no exception. There are a number of things fans can take issue with, but in the end, this is a very good Fantastic Four movie.

This movie is better than the first, though I will admit I hesitantly enjoyed the first film. The effects all look good and the Silver Surfer kicks serious ass. I’m hoping he can get a spin-off. This is particularly significant since I don’t really care this character in the books all that much.

After seeing Johnny rip out with all the Four’s powers combined in the end, I’m dying for Fantastic Four 3 to be about the Super Skrull. Maybe following the Kree/Skrull War?

Marvel Ultimate Alliance: GalactusAnyway, if you can get over the Galactus issue, and you go into this movie expecting fun and action, you’ll come away pleasantly surprised. Comparing this to Marvel’s other two films so far this year, it decimated Ghost Rider and is far better than Spider-Man 3.

Dee sent along this great video to Al who showed it to me. This Bud Light swear jar is much better than the one my wife keeps trying to enforce in our house!

Fantastic Four 2: Galactus Revealed?

// June 13th, 2007 // 3 Comments » // Fun Whatnot

About 3/4 of the way into the above clip we see a short couple frames of Saturn. Projected onto Saturn is a shadow mysteriously shaped like Galactus. Some have complained that this can’t be true as Galactus is not in fact that big. In conventional mythology, he stands nearly 30 feet tall. Given the proper spacing he could project this large of a shadow, but it seems more likely that they have increased his size for greater theatrical impact.

This is completely against the popular rumor that Galactus will instead be portrayed as a cloud… I can’t imagine anyone would allow something that poor to happen to such a beloved and significant Marvel character.

The one thing this is for sure, Galactus will appear in this film. From director Tim Story’s MySpace page:

There continues to be much speculation about Galactus. Major speculation. We haven’t finished the design of him/it so be careful about what you read and believe. Trust me…no one knows. One things for sure, you can expect to see him/it. It will be pretty powerful. I’m having a lot of fun with the concept and believe me – MOST will be satisfied.

Why Safari 3 on PC? For the iPhone!

// June 12th, 2007 // 2 Comments » // Technology Bits

I love Safari on my Mac. It outperforms Firefox for me, the built in RSS support is wonderful, the tabs work better than any of the other browsers, and private browsing (better known as porn mode) can’t be beat. However… it’s really no competition for Firefox or Internet Explorer on the PC platform as an overall browser.

So.. why Safari on the PC? Does Apple truly believe they can compete with Mozilla and Microsoft? I’d say they are not that misguided…

Safari is now available on PC purely to test iPhone applications.

There are a lot of web developers who will be able to develop small applications to deliver through Safari on the iPhone starting on June 29th. Yet, a large majority of the developers will not have iPhones and don’t have Macs. This means Safari needs to be made available for testing on PC for those developers to add value to the iPhone. Although this would be made better if Apple cloned Firebug and rolled that in out of the box…

As far as actual browser usage, I would be shocked to see the web adoption pass 6% for Safari (Apple claims they currently get 4.9%). This may sell a couple more people on Macs, but Safari is not iTunes. It does not stand head and shoulders above competitor software. If they do expand market share in Safari and get a few more people onto a Mac, this is a bonus.

In conclusion… I’m glad to see Safari on PC. Hopefully more web applications will get tested with it… but don’t be fooled this is a move to bolster the iPhone, nothing more.
